Curation notes
- Crossed from the Jamaican canon (Scaruffi, the Matador and Songlines essentials, the RateYourMusic dub chart), the On-U Sound and Ariwa retrospectives, and the French scene press — Culture Dub, Musical Echoes, Reggae France — 1973–2023.
- The shape of the selection is an argument: Jamaica invented dub, England industrialised it, France is where it stayed a living stage practice. Hence the United Kingdom at 35, France at 30 and Jamaica at 26 — the founders are not the majority, on purpose.
- At most three albums per artist as lead, collaborations counted separately, with one owned exception: Scientist gets four, because the 1980–82 Greensleeves run is the genre itself.
- Dub techno is opened by three entries only — Rhythm & Sound twice and Pole, already shelved with the Techno 100. A door left ajar in case it earns its own top, the same treatment deathcore got under metal.
- No vocal reggae in disguise. Super Ape passes despite its voices because every reference list files it here; Garvey's Ghost and the Congos stay on the Reggae shelf. Dreadsquad's riddim album was cut for exactly this reason.
- Left out, or claimed by another shelf: Dub Inc and Danakil (sung reggae), Ez3kiel (trip-hop), Burial and Digital Mystikz (dubstep, a possible top of its own), Basic Channel beyond Pole and Rhythm & Sound.
